Solo was launched on 1st July 1997. Like Maestro, Solo is a fully electronic debit card and is just as convenient to use to pay for everyday goods and services.
However, Solo offers a different level of financial control and reassurance: every transaction is authorized, so cardholders can only spend what is available in their account. This financial control with Maestro style convenience has brought sophisticated personal banking to new groups of customers.
Where can I use a Solo debit card?
There are now 927,000 outlets in the UK where you can use your Solo debit card and acceptance continues to expand all the time, as more and more places take cards. It's not only major chains that accept Solo - many other businesses also take it, so keep a look out for the distinctive purple logo in the window or by the till... and if you can't see the logo, why not try asking as not all retailers put up stickers showing which cards they take.
