Maestro, together with the UK card and payments industry, works hard to beat fraudsters and card thieves and we have a large number of security measures in place. Below are some tips on avoiding card fraud and news of a change that is happening now.

At cash machines and in shops

To maintain your privacy and reduce the risk of fraud, Maestro only requires your confidential Personal Identification Number (PIN) to authorise withdrawals and transactions in most countries of the world.*

  • Always check your statements carefully
  • Never write down your PIN
  • Make sure your card doesn't leave your sight, when making a transaction.

Shopping on the internet

If you enjoy shopping online with your Maestro debit card, MasterCard® SecureCode™ will give you added protection against unauthorized use of your card.

Lost or stolen card?

If you think your card has been stolen, or you have lost it, contact your bank immediately on one of these numbers.

*Currently, in countries you may be requested to sign a receipt to complete your Maestro transaction rather than enter your PIN.
